The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) is set to officially commence the New Law Year with its traditional Ceremonial Opening, under the theme “The ECSC – Justice that Endures: Anchored in Independence, Strengthened through Trust.” This year’s observance holds special significance as the Commonwealth of Dominica has been selected as the host Member State.
As part of the week’s activities, Dominica will also host the first scheduled sitting of the ECSC Court of Appeal for 2026, reinforcing the island’s important role within the regional judicial system.
The Ceremonial Opening activities will begin on Sunday, 11 January 2026, with a church service at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Victoria Street, Roseau. The service is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. and will bring together members of the judiciary, the legal fraternity, government officials, and invited guests.
On Monday, 12 January 2026, proceedings will continue with a formal procession from the Magistrate’s Court to the State House. The programme will include the inspection of the Guard, followed by a Special Sitting of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court at 10:00 a.m.
The highlight of the Ceremonial Opening will be the feature address to be delivered by Acting Chief Justice, Her Ladyship the Honourable Justice Margaret Price-Findlay, who will speak live from Dominica. Her address is expected to reflect on the Court’s enduring commitment to judicial independence, institutional integrity, and public trust across the Eastern Caribbean.
The hosting of the Ceremonial Opening underscores Dominica’s continued contribution to regional governance and the administration of justice, while providing an opportunity for reflection on the rule of law and the role of the judiciary in strengthening democratic societies.
