Rotary Club of Dominica Hands Over Water Fountains to Roseau and Trafalgar Primary Schools

The Rotary Club of Dominica officially handed over water fountains to the Roseau Primary School and the Trafalgar Primary School during ceremonies held on Monday, June 15, 2026, as part of its ongoing Childhood Obesity Programme.

The installation of the water fountains forms a key component of the Club’s efforts to promote healthier lifestyles among children by encouraging increased water consumption and reducing the intake of sugary beverages. The initiative supports the broader national effort to address childhood obesity and improve the overall health and well-being of students.

Addressing the ceremonies was Nutritionist, Ms. Kerissa Shillingford from the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services, who highlighted the importance of proper hydration and healthy eating habits in preventing childhood obesity and other non-communicable diseases. Students were encouraged to make water their beverage of choice and to adopt healthy lifestyle practices from an early age.

In addition to the water fountains, students received reusable water bottles to facilitate easy access to drinking water throughout the school day. The bottles will enable students to conveniently refill and stay hydrated while at school.

President of the Rotary Club of Dominica, Dr. Jermaine Jewel Jean-Pierre, expressed appreciation to the principals, teachers, students, and the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services for their support and collaboration in advancing the Childhood Obesity Programme.

The President noted that the project was made possible through funds raised during its Annual Carnival Sunday Souse and Punch Fundraiser, one of the Club’s signature fundraising events. The Club thanked the many patrons, sponsors, and supporters whose contributions helped make the initiative a reality.

The Childhood Obesity Programme is the Rotary Club of Dominica’s flagship health initiative and seeks to promote healthy lifestyles among children through education, awareness, and practical interventions aimed at improving nutrition and physical activity.

The Rotary Club of Dominica remains committed to serving communities across the island and developing projects that create lasting and meaningful impacts on the lives of young people.
