The Rotary Club of Portsmouth (RCP) proudly announces the successful launch of two new school playgrounds this September, further advancing its vision of creating safe, fun, and engaging spaces for children across Dominica.
The first of these new installations was officially opened at Temple SDA Primary School on Monday, September 8, made possible through the generous partnership of Republic Bank (EC) Limited Dominica through its Power to Make a Difference Program. The second playground was inaugurated at the Salybia Primary School on Tuesday, September 16, with the invaluable support of Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, and funding from a grant provided by Rotary District 7030.
These milestones follow the launch of the inaugural playground at Savanne Paille Primary School in September 2024, marking three successful installations to date. With each new project, RCP moves closer to its ambitious goal of equipping primary schools in Dominica with safe and stimulating play areas. Planning is already underway for the fourth playground, expected to be launched in the coming months.
President of the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, Marianne Wijnands, highlighted the importance of these efforts, “These playgrounds represent our commitment to building brighter futures for Dominican children. By working with partners such as Republic Bank, Rotary District 7030, and with the encouragement of Her Excellency, we are creating opportunities for our children to learn, grow, and thrive through play.”
Chair of Service Projects, Lizra Fabien, also underscored the impact of the initiative: “Play is essential to child development, and through this initiative, we are ensuring that children in Dominica have access to safe and stimulating play spaces. We are deeply grateful for the partnerships that make this possible and we invite others to join us as we work toward installing playgrounds at every school in the country.”
The Rotary Club of Portsmouth invites all individuals, businesses, and organizations who share this vision to join the effort. Contributions, partnerships, or introductions to potential supporters will accelerate the initiative and help ensure that every Dominican child has access to safe and joyful spaces for growth and play.
