UWI to host Eighth Emerging Leaders Conference

Dominica’s Chapter of the UWI Global Campus Guild of Students and Fine Foods Inc. will host the eighth Emerging Leaders Conference on Saturday, 27 January and Saturday, 17 February, 2024. Each year, the Conference brings about forty (40) secondary schools student leaders together for skills-building seminars and workshops in several key leadership areas.

This year is the turn of student leaders of Convent High School, St. Mary’s Academy, St. Martin’s Secondary School and Wesley High School. Ms. Annalyn Joseph, Chair of the Dominica Chapter of the UWI Global Campus Guild of Students explained that the aim of the Conference is to equip students who hold leadership positions in their schools’ with the skills they need as they grow into their current and future roles.

“We at UWI believe that leadership skills can and should be instilled in students from a young age as a way of preparing them to be willing and able to step up to leadership positions competently as they grow,” said Joseph.

The Emerging Leaders Conference is an initiative of the Dominica’s Chapter of the UWI Global Campus Guild of Students, and started in 2016. Each year, four secondary schools are invited to nominate ten (10) student leaders for the programme. The two-Saturday Conference provides an opportunity for leadership skills training as well as networking among the student leaders.
