The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) has announced the election of a new Board of Directors following its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Thursday, 14 May 2026, at the Prevo Cinemall Ballroom, Roseau.
The AGM, which drew private sector representatives, stakeholders, sponsors, and
invited guests, also featured an Open Session under the theme: "Beyond the Runway:
Unlocking Private Sector Growth Through Dominica's International Airport." A keynote
address was delivered by Mr. Samuel Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of the
International Airport Development Company (IADC), who outlined the wide-ranging
economic opportunities spanning tourism, logistics, agro-processing, cargo, MSME
development, and job creation that Dominica's international airport is expected to
generate. Mr. Johnson encouraged the private sector not to wait for the airport's
completion anticipated by the end of 2027, but to begin preparing now for the
opportunities it will create.
Following the Open Session, the membership elected a new Board of Directors at the
closed AGM session. Outgoing President Mr. Brenton Hilaire said that the DAIC has
consistently encouraged the private sector to view the international airport not only as a national project, but as an opportunity requiring business preparation, investment,
collaboration, and strategic planning. He encouraged the Chamber to engage with the
Government of Dominica and called on the membership to contribute to the national
conversation on development with a focus on embracing opportunities, finding solutions, and partnering for economic growth.
Incoming President Mrs. Olive Strachan thanked the membership for its confidence in
her leadership and acknowledged the service of outgoing President Mr. Brenton Hilaire, who served through an extended and challenging period for the Chamber. She told the membership that leadership is not about position, but about people, trust, consistency, and service. Mrs. Strachan also said that the Chamber has an important role to play in strengthening collaboration, supporting a resilient and forward-looking private sector, and ensuring that members' voices are heard. She committed to leading with integrity, openness, action, and service, while working with the new Board to engage members and address the practical issues affecting businesses.
Public Relations Officer Mrs. Natasha Yeeloy-Labad told the Chamber membership that
they were in a most unique position to both support and guide governance during what she described as Dominica’s unfolding transformation as a developing nation. Citing the Chamber's 50 years of existence, Labad encouraged members to see the DAIC as the pulse of economic activity and made a commitment to transparently represent the Chamber's interests with an unbiased voice. Stating I’m here to both support and work with you!
