PREVO CINEMALL to Boost Sale of Locally Made KALINAGO ARTS AND CRAFTS

As part of its continuing mission to highlight and promote Dominica’s Arts, Crafts, Heritage and Culture, the PREVO CINEMALL in collaboration with the Kalinago Council and the Arts & Crafts makers and vendors of the Kalinago Territory, will this Thursday 17th and Friday 18th September 2026, host a two day Arts and Crafts Exhibition at the PREVO CINEMALL, in order to help boost the sale of locally made Kalinago Arts and Crafts, among Dominicans at home.

According to Ms. Vanessa Prevost, General Manager of the PREVO CINEMALL, “The PREVO CINEMALL is a Heritage Property in itself. The PREVO CINEMALL building is the preserved and transformed former Carib Cinema, built in the 1950s and converted into a Shopping Mall. It hosts several Shops, Restaurants, Offices, Conference Rooms and an Exposition Hall. Being a Heritage Property located in the downtown of Roseau, at the junction of Kennedy Avenue and Old Street, which is the heart of the Business Community, the founders of the PREVO CINEMALL from its inception made the promotion of Dominica’s Heritage and Culture an important part of its mission. As such, during World Creole Music Festival, National Independence and Christmas Seasons 2024 and 2025 the PREVO CINEMALL in collaboration with the Waitukubuli Artist Association hosted several Art Exhibitions. This week, which is Kalinago Week, the PREVO CINEMALL is making available to the Kalinago Community free of charge, its Exposition Room, Courtyard and the surrounding Sidewalks to display and sell

their locally made Kalinago Arts and Crafts.”

“We at the PREVO CINEMALL would like to encourage every Dominican to support Kalinago Week in a tangible way by visiting the Kalinago Territory and by visiting the Kalinago Expo at the PREVO CINEMALL and buying some of the authentic locally made Kalinago Arts, Crafts, souvenirs and food.” Ms. Prevost reminded us that “Dominica’s Heritage and Culture is a fusion of Kalinago, European and African Heritage and Culture, and to keep Dominica’s culture alive, we need to put our money where our mouth is.” “The same way we pay for World Creole Music Festival, is the same way we must buy authentic locally made arts and crafts, for ourselves, our

family and our friends.”

Congrats to the Kalinago Council

She went on to congratulate the Kalinago Community for bringing this year’s celebration of Kalinago Week to Roseau where it will be more accessible to the residents in the urban area.

“The Kalinago Expo at the PREVO CINEMALL will also include cultural performances. The PREVO CINEMALL wants to commend the Kalinago Council and Community for their foresight in bringing part of the Kalinago Week celebration to the city where the urban population including the students of the Dominica State College and the Secondary and Primary Schools, who may not be able to go the Kalinago Territory can easily come to the PREVO CINEMALL and experience first hand part of the Kalinago Week activities.” In closing Ms Prevost expressed the hope that the Kalinago Week EXPO at the PREVO CINEMALL would become and annual event.”
